Douser Greatmoth

Any nyctophobes in the house? Well, this week we have your new least favorite monster, the moth that finally did what every lesser moth wanted most: it actually got the light. Douser greatmoths eat light itself, which I suspect has some pretty dire consequences re: entropy and thermodynamics (destruction of energy is probably physically illegal for a reason), but honestly, most parties will probably kill them just cause they're big scary bugs. You'll only need to lose one campfire in a spooky forest to decide to kill these on sight, no exceptions. We hope you enjoy learning to hate these almost as much as mimics and schedule complications.

Oh, and for those counting? That's now 3 out of 14. You know who you are.

Douser Greatmoth

Rumored to have originated from the Mistress of the Night, the douser greatmoth is a testament to Shar’s hatred of light. True creatures of darkness, douser greatmoths subsist off of light and are experts at navigating without it.

Predators to Light. Douser greatmoths survive off of light. They are not carnivorous and have little need for flesh. However, this does not make them less of a threat to day-dwelling species. A lone traveler with a torch may not in-and-of-themselves be a target of the douser greatmoth, however they are nonetheless in danger as a barrier between the greatmoth and its prey.

Disastrous Pests. Douser greatmoths can often be found in tight spaces that hold light, such as in mines that suddenly go dark or in the cracks and crevices of a lighthouse, which provide nightly feasts to the undiscovered greatmoth. This is, of course, much to the dismay of lost and wrecked sailors and merchants with unfulfilled shipments. While perhaps not inherently violent, douser greatmoths can still be a great threat to the communities they infest.
